What We’re Responsible For

We’re the tier of local government closest to you. Some things we run and maintain, some things we influence, and some we signpost to the right authority.

We manage or fund

  • Village assets: greens, noticeboards, benches, bus shelters, war memorials
  • Play areas & open spaces (where parish-owned)
  • Footpaths/Rights of Way waymarking & local improvements
  • Small grants to local groups and events that benefit parishioners across Amport, East Cholderton and North Weyhill
  • Community projects — litter picks, tree planting, heritage and conservation initiatives
  • Neighbourhood Plan follow-up actions and community engagement

We comment and influence

  • Planning applications within Amport, East Cholderton and North Weyhill (we submit formal views to TVBC)
  • Highways & traffic matters (speed, signage, safety; we lobby HCC)
  • Flooding & drainage concerns (liaising with landowners and agencies)
  • Environmental issues (biodiversity, verges, trees, dark skies, chalk streams)

We signpost

  • Household waste & recycling, council tax, planning decisions: Test Valley Borough Council (TVBC)
  • Roads, potholes, street lighting, rights of way maintenance: Hampshire County Council (HCC)
  • Policing, anti-social behaviour, emergencies: Hampshire & IoW Constabulary

Current Priorities

  • Protecting parish character — particularly in response to major development proposals affecting North Weyhill
  • Safer roads and lanes — reducing speeding and improving signage
  • Footpaths and access — keeping the network walkable for all ages
  • Environment & biodiversity — trees, chalk streams, hedgerows, and dark skies
  • Community voice — ensuring all residents of Amport Parish are properly consulted

Get Involved

  • Come to a meeting — you’re always welcome, whether you stay for 10 minutes or for the whole agenda.
  • Join a working group — planning, environment, traffic, or community events.
  • Volunteer for a one-off — litter pick, bulb planting, or a tidy-up day.
  • Tell us what you think — small ideas often make the biggest difference.
